Journal Writing: How to Catch a Leprechaun
March 17, 2026
Dear Journal
First, on the night before Saint Patrick’s Day, I build a leprechaun trap using a milk crate. I place the milk crate upside down and prop it up with a small stick so it can fall when the leprechaun touches the bait. I put shiny gold coins or glitter under the crate because leprechauns love gold. I make sure everything is set carefully so the crate will drop down and trap the leprechaun.
Next, I place my trap in a quiet spot in my house where a leprechaun might walk by at night. I check that the stick is holding the milk crate up just enough so it will fall if the leprechaun tries to grab the gold. Then I go to bed and wait, because leprechauns usually come out when everyone is asleep.
Last, in the morning I check my trap to see if I caught a leprechaun. If the milk crate has fallen, I know the trap might have worked. Even if the leprechaun escaped, it might leave behind gold coins, green glitter, or tiny footprints to show it visited my trap.
